Living in Adamsdown
Adamsdown sits directly east of the city centre, behind Queen Street station, and is one of the densest and oldest parts of residential Cardiff. The streets are narrow, the terraces are small, and almost everything is within a ten-minute walk of the middle of the city.
Clifton Street is the high street, and it has kept a run of genuinely independent shops and cafés where other inner areas lost theirs. The former Cardiff Royal Infirmary, a large Victorian hospital building, stands on Newport Road at the northern edge.
Roath is immediately north and Splott immediately south, and the area shares characteristics with both — Roath’s Victorian street pattern, Splott’s industrial history.
What sells here
Almost nothing here is not a two or three bedroom terrace, and first-time buyers and investors letting to sharers take most of them. Position relative to the city centre does most of the pricing, and the larger houses towards Roath sell into a different and stronger market than the smaller ones near the railway.
