Thornhill is where Cardiff runs out. The housing climbs the lower slopes below Caerphilly mountain and then stops against the Wenallt woods, which means a good part of the area backs directly onto trees and open ground with the city spread out below.
Most of it was built from the 1960s onwards, so the stock is modern by Cardiff standards — detached and semi-detached family houses with gardens, garages and off-street parking as standard rather than as a premium.
Llanishen and Lisvane reservoirs sit to the east, the Wenallt and Caerphilly mountain to the north, and the A469 runs over the top towards Caerphilly. Llanishen and its station are a short drive south.
What sells here
Three and four bedroom modern family houses are the market, bought almost entirely by families moving for schools and space. Backing onto woodland or open ground is worth a clear premium, and the larger detached houses on the upper roads sell into the strongest part of the market.
