Living in Lockleaze
Lockleaze sits between Horfield and the M32, and it is one of the few parts of north Bristol where a house with a real garden is still within reach of a first-time buyer. Most of it was built in the years after the war, laid out generously — wide verges, open greens, and plots that are considerably bigger than the Victorian terraces a mile to the south.
Stoke Park rises immediately to the east, with the yellow house on the ridge that most of Bristol knows by sight, and Sir John’s Wood and the Frome valley beyond it. There has been steady new development around Bonnington Walk and the old railway path in recent years.
Southmead Hospital, the university sites and the aerospace employers at Filton are all a short run, and the M32 is close enough to be useful without being close enough to hear.
