Riverside faces the castle and Bute Park across the Taff, which makes it one of the closest neighbourhoods to the centre that still feels residential. Fitzhamon Embankment runs along the water, and the riverside market that sets up there on a Sunday has become one of the fixtures of the Cardiff week.
The housing is Victorian terraced, much of it converted to flats nearer the river and intact as houses further back towards Canton. Despenser Gardens and the embankment provide the green space, and Sophia Gardens and the cricket ground are immediately north.
Cowbridge Road East begins here before running out through Canton, so the area has a working high street on its doorstep as well as the city centre over the bridge.
What sells here
Flats and smaller terraces are the bulk of the market, bought by first-time buyers and investors who want the walk into town. Intact family houses on the streets towards Canton are scarcer and command a clear premium over the converted stock.
