Every home sold in the Southville ward (within BS3 1) in the twelve months to April 2026, not only ours. The change compares each kind of home against its own kind a year earlier — detached against detached, flats against flats — because a median follows what happened to sell as much as what it is worth. The median itself moved up 9.5%, mostly because a different mix of homes sold. Contains HM Land Registry data © Crown copyright and database right, licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Living in Southville
Southville sits immediately south of the river, and our South Bristol office is on North Street in the middle of it. The street is the area’s centre of gravity — a long run of independent shops, cafés, pubs and the Tobacco Factory — and it is what has driven the area’s change over the past couple of decades.
The housing is almost entirely Victorian terraced, built for the workers of the tobacco and engineering industries that once dominated this side of the river, and now among the most sought after in south Bristol. Greville Smyth Park and Ashton Court are on the western edge, Ashton Gate stadium sits between the two.
The centre is a walk across the harbour, which is the other half of the appeal: this is one of the few parts of Bristol where a car is genuinely optional.
What sells here
Terraces of two and three bedrooms are the market, and the closer to North Street the stronger the price. Buyers are typically first-time buyers and young families, with the larger bay- fronted houses towards the park attracting people moving within the area rather than into it.
