Living in Sully
Sully runs along the coast between Penarth and Barry, with the shore on one side and open farmland on the other. Sully Island sits just offshore, reachable on foot across a causeway at low tide and cut off at high — a walk that catches people out often enough for the RNLI to have put warning signs at the top of it.
The housing is mostly post-war: bungalows and detached houses on generous plots, with the apartments at Hayes Point at the eastern end, which have the best of the views. There is no railway station, so this is a village that assumes a car in a way Dinas Powys does not.
Penarth is a few minutes east and Barry a few minutes west, which is how most people here handle schools, shopping and the rest of it.
What sells here
Bungalows and detached houses with gardens are most of the market, and outlook does a great deal of the pricing — anything with a sea view sells into a different market from the same house without one. Buyers are largely downsizers and families moving out of Penarth and Cardiff, and stock is consistently short.
